Features supported in the current version of XPDL Designer are as follows:
Import/Export Workflow Packages
Using XPDL Designer, you can create workflow packages containg process definitions in a GUI based environment and then export your designed workflow process definitions as a workflow package in the form of an XPDL file. Moreover, you can also import existing workflow packages in XPDL Designer.
Manage Workflow Packages Visually
You can manage all features and contents of a workflow package visually. You don't have to remember the workflow entities to add or configure in a workflow package. All you need to do, is to configure these workflow entities by setting their properties.
WYSIWYG Process Designing
Process designers use XML Process Definition Language (XPDL) to define their workflow processes, which takes so much time and is also error prone. Using XPDL Designer, process designers can easily design their workflow process definitions in a WYSIWYG environment to save their time and minimizing the mistakes. XPDL Designer facilitates process designers to only concenterate on their workflow processes design without caring about XPDL syntax issues.
Conformance to WFMC Standards
XPDL Designer is fully conformed to the standards offered by Workflow Management Coalition (WFMC) like XPDL, WF-XML etc. You can manage a workflow package based on these standards developed in any other editor using XPDL Designer.
Mini Map
XPDL Designer provides a new feature called Mini Map that allows designers to view their process design as a small preview image. Designers can also reduce or enlarge the size of their designed processes by using the Zoom In and Zoom Out features provided by Mini Map.
Package Explorer
XPDL Designer allows its users to explore their workflow packages using an exciting utility feature, Package Explorer. Package explorer lists all contents of a workflow package including the applications, participants, workflow processes, type declarations, data fields, activity sets etc. Using package explorer, designers can also add, view, edit or remove workflow entities in the packages.
Shape Library
Shape Library offered by XPDL Designer contains all graphical shapes that are required to create the graphical representation of a process design. It contains many shapes to represent activities, activity blocks, subflows, joins etc. Designers can drag and drop these shapes on the drawing area to design their processes.
Property Editor
Designers can edit the properties of all graphical shapes provided by Shape Library using the Property Editor. This property editor is same as that of property editing side bar of Visual Studio IDE. Users can select any desired shape and then edit properties related to that shape in the property editor.
