About OpenDocument
The OpenDocument format (ODF) is a free and open file format for electronic office documents originally developed by Sun for the Open Office suite. OpenDocument Text (ODT) is the file format for word processing documents. OpenDocument is currently an OASIS and ISO standard.
ODT in Aspose.Words
Support for OpenDocument was added to Aspose.Words following requests from our customers, however it was hard to achieve.
Aspose.Words is primarily designed for Microsoft Word documents but conversions between Word and ODT is often far from trivial. There is a lot of talk on the net about “harmonization” between OOXML and ODT mainly because these formats are so far from each other.
Yet while harmonization is still under discussion we have stepped forward. Aspose.Words is now capable of loading and saving ODT documents.

A test ODT document generated by Aspose.Words and opened in OpenOffice Writer.
