Next Release: MS Project 2010 .NET

    Hi,

Though I like unexpected features, I tend to be a bit more conservative.  My christmas list would include a more complete MPP support..

And topping this would be careful consideration of the next version of MS Project.  From the little I've seen this looks like a major change - with new user interface available and new ways of treating some fields (like text in a date field - or something like this).

I'm curious to know when or if you have started looking at 2010?  and any thoughts on possible changes to Aspose.Tasks?

    Any other thoughts appreciated!!

    Regards, Bruce

    Hi Bruce,

An issue with issue id 12506 has been created on our Issue Tracking System to incorporate MS Project 2010 support in Aspose.Tasks for .NET. As this thread has been associated with this issue, you will be informed in this thread as soon as this feature is implemented.

Re: Next Release: MS Project 2010 .NET

    Hi Sergey,

A quick question about MS Project 2010 ...

I believe one of the new features of this release is the ability to place text in the duration column or the date columns ... these are like notes for actions to be taken...

Have you tried this yet (or did it actually make it into the product)?

What impact will this text have on the data types for some of the fields?  e.g. the duration may have a text component, ... so ... will the data type change to object?  or will this be handled in another way?

    Regards, Bruce

Re: Next Release: MS Project 2010

    Hi Bruce,

Yes, the MS Project 2010 beta supports the feature, but for manually scheduled tasks only. The new fields 'StartText' and 'FinishText' contain the data as a plain text, the dates are in old 'Start' and 'Finish' fields as it was in previous versions.

The XML schema mspdi_pj14.xsd provided with MS Project 2010 SDK does not contain the new fields description so the fileds are not supported by Aspose.Tasks currently. I think we can include the feature support in some our next release.

Thank you for the information and your question.

Re: Next Release: MS Project 2010 .NET

    Hi Sergey,

Many thanks for the feedback ... I did a quick schema comparison between the 12 and 14 XSD and I did think that they had some new fields for this ...  They are called Pinned and appear to be pinnedstart, pinnedfinish, and pinnedduration along with pinned (boolean) = manual task.

there seem to be some other interesting changes too.. like active (boolean)..

I've just installed the 2010 sdk so I think this is the official release ... but not totally sure..

    Regards, Bruce

Re: Next Release: MS Project 2010

    Hi Bruce,

The May's release of MS Project 2010 SDK is marked as RTM. But we still have some differences in the element names like Manual and Pinned and so on. We have added support for a new task's Manual flag (see here), but in the XSD the element's name is Pinned while in the XML produced by MS Project 2010 BETA the element's name is Manual. There are new StartText and FinishText elements in the XML which are absent in the XSD...

This is why we had to postpone some new features implementation.

Re: Next Release: MS Project 2010 .NET

    Hi Sergey,

Many thanks ... I'm glad I asked ... I at least know how this area of manual / pinned tasks is intended to work and how the text will be managed...

I also guess the real answer is what the code does not the schema ... so hopefully they will align quickly.

    Thanks again for the response.

    Regards, Bruce
