    Pre-sales questions .NET

    Hello,
my company is evaluating Aspose Slides right now. We've created a small desktop application to test the conversion from PPT to image and SVG (this is our main use case - document conversion, we do not need to create PPT documents just need to convert them).

    Some questions if I may:
    1) conversion to SVG seems to produce blank documents, only the aspose watermark is present. Is this normal or are we missing some libraries?
    2) is there an easy or recommended workflow to export to SWF format?
    3) text contained within slides does sometimes not seem to get antialiased. Is that caused by fonts missing from the machine that's doing the conversion? If not, what can cause it?
    4) how does the licensing work if we want to deploy the Aspose software on a single piece of hardware but on multiple Virtual Machines? Is that covered by the developer OEM license?
    5) When is thmibnail extraction for PPTX going to be completed? It's crucial for us.

    many thanks,

    Stefan

    Re: Pre-sales questions

    Hello Stefan,

    1. Such problem was never reported. Please provide example of presentation, generated SVG file and code you use for conversion.
    2. Aspose.Flash has simple Ppt2Swf demo which shows one of the possible ways. Of course, you can parse presentation using Aspose.Slides and generate flash file with any flash library you like. Although, that is not trivial.
    3. Do you mean font is not antialiased on rendered image? In case font not found it will be replaced with Arial. I think it's always true type font and should be antialiased. That is for .NET version. In Java there can be raster fonts especially in non-windows environments. Anyway, example would be helpful.
    4. If I'm not mistaken developer OEM license should be fine but please post any licensing and purchasing questions in Aspose.Purchase forum. Our sales team will answer it much better.
    5. In next several months. We are planning to publish also intermediate versions for public testing.

    Re: Pre-sales questions

Please find a link to a zip with some sample conversions attached.
    files.me.com/stoem/j6htso

    Note the following:
    - slide_2.svg and slide_2.png were produced from SkyScan.ppt
There are major differences in the output, can you explain this?

    - PowerPointScreen002.jpg shows a screen grab of a PPT opened in Office. slide_5.jpg shows the converted result. Note the wrapped header. The required font was installed on the conversion machine.
Can you explain what would cause this?

I have many other examples of inconsistent results. I'm starting to have some doubts about the Aspose software as there are so many small issues that all add up to a big problem. Considering the price tag of your software I would expect much more consistent results.

To elaborate, we want to convert documents of multiple formats to PNG, SVG and maybe SWF. Some Aspose products provide SVG output (Slides), others do not (Words). Some Aspose APIs allow thumbnail generation (for PPT files), others do not (for PPTX files).

Also your File attachment form in this forum is broken. I'm on a Mac, and when trying to upload a zip it tells me that only zip, ppt etc is allowed. I was trying to upload a zip.
I then tried to add a URL, and got the same error. That was after I had to click the save button about 10 times before it would register a click.

    Regards,

    Stefan

    Re: Pre-sales questions

    Hello Stefan,

    1. I just have tried both slide_2.svg and slide_2.png and images are exactly the same. I use Mozilla 3.0.11 and Apache Batik 1.7 as SVG viewers.

    2. Do you use .NET or Java version of Aspose.Slides for slide_5 conversion? I'm not sure without real PPT example but spaces between characters on image and in the PowerPoint are different. That means font is not found or .NET/Java can't process it's information properly.

    3. Aspose.Slides, Aspose.Words, Aspose.Cells and etc are developed by different teams independently so I can't help with other components features. But if I'm not mistaken Aspose.Words has export to SVG and many other formats.

    4. PPTX files rendering currently in development and will be available in this year.

    5. Could you please provide more details about files attaching error and we will forward it to our web admins. Anyway, there are many files attached every day in the forums and such problem was never reported.

    Re: Pre-sales questions

    thanks for the reply.

    1. I've opened the SVG in Adobe Illustrator, it looks badly rendered. Nevermind, we won't be using SVG as the results are not usable in most cases.

    2. We use .NET. You say "without real PPT example" - but I included the PPT in the ZIP you downloaded. The font used is installed on the conversion machine. Will Aspose through some sort of error or warning upon missing fonts?
In this case, the font is installed by default on most Windows machines, it's a common font.

    3. Ok, understood.

    4. Thanks.

    5. The fact that the problem was never reported doesn't really matter, does it? I would expect a lot of users to just give up on a problem like this.
    Here's a screenrecording:
    files.me.com/stoem/guhh8z.mov

I'm using Firefox 3.5 on OSX, a mainstream browser on a mainstream OS. Having to scroll around to access the save button is quite bad, but it then not working is even worse.

    Regards,

    Stefan

    Re: Pre-sales questions

    1. By my own experience Adobe products have very limited and buggy support of SVG 1.1 specification. Sometimes they can't even properly show simple formatted text.

    2. I mean presentation with slide_5. That is also important for us to improve rendering and avoid such wrong text wrapping. So could you please attach source presentation used for creating slide_5 image.

    5. Thank you for reporting it. Our web team will check this issue.
