    New feature requests

    Hi,

I have been asked to do something which I believe requires features you do not currently provide with your PDF.Net component and I was wondering whether you could add these features and if so what sort of timescale it would be.

    1) I need to be able to create rectangular areas on a page that link to another page in another document.  This would be the same as using the 'Link Tool' in Adobe Acrobat and setting it to 'Invisible Rectangle'.

    2) With a link created using the existing hyperlink support or the process decribed above, I need to be able to execute a menu item in Acrobat viewer (specifically Edit->Search).  This is the same as selecting a 'Custom Action' for the link in Acrobat and then specifying 'Execute a Menu Item' in the available actions.

    3) I need to be able to create bookmarks at specific points in the document, not determined by the headings.

    4) I need to be able to create a bookmark that executes a menu item in Adobe Reader (specifically Edit->Search)

    5) Finally I need to be able to create an index file (*.pdx & *.idx) for several OCRed PDFs.  This would be the equivalent of selecting 'Advanced->Catalog->New Index' in Adobe Acrobat.  I would then need to be able to attach that index to a PDF.

Any help on some or all of these features is greatly appreciated,

    Chris

    Dear Chris,

Thank you for considering Aspose and reporting your requirement.

Do you want these features when processing existing PDF but not creating new PDF?

    Re: New feature requests

Both.  In some cases I will be creating the PDF from scratch using Aspose.PDF, in some cases converting from Word with Aspose.Word and Aspose.PDF and in other cases the PDFs may come from another source.

    1) I need to be able to create rectangular areas on a page that link to another page in another document.  This would be the same as using the 'Link Tool' in Adobe Acrobat and setting it to 'Invisible Rectangle'.
This is supported in Aspose.Pdf and Aspose.Pdf.Kit.

We need to investigate this issue.

    3) I need to be able to create bookmarks at specific points in the document, not determined by the headings.
This is already supported in Aspose.Pdf.Kit. We can support it in Aspose.Pdf in the future version.

    4) I need to be able to create a bookmark that executes a menu item in Adobe Reader (specifically Edit->Search)
We need to investigate this issue.

    5) Finally I need to be able to create an index file (*.pdx & *.idx) for several OCRed PDFs.  This would be the equivalent of selecting 'Advanced->Catalog->New Index' in Adobe Acrobat.  I would then need to be able to attach that index to a PDF.
We need to investigate this issue.

Basically I am afraid 2,4 and 5 can't be supported in short time.

    Re: New feature requests

Thanks for the quick response and you help in this.

I appreciate that these features may require some work and investigation.  What I was hoping was that maybe 2 & 4 could be made available in the next 1-2 months.

Also if the ability to attach an existing index to a PDF could also be made available in a similar timeframe.

Then in the short term I was considering automating Adobe Acrobat to generate the index file, until a better solution, such as using Aspose.PDF/Aspose.Pdf.Kit for this is available, as I realise that this might be a more complex feature.

    Updated component version is available

    Attachment: Present (inaccessible)

The issues you have found earlier (filed as 5174) have been fixed in this update.

Some sample code is attached. We will add this into the programmer's guide later.
