    Word to PDF Formatting Issues

    Attachment: Present (inaccessible)

    Hi

I have attached a Word document which has some formatting issues when you run it through your components.  We have a customer complaining that the converted PDF document is not exact to the source Word document.  The resulting PDF seems to be losing some spacing and tabs within the table. Picky I know, but these should be quite clear to see.  Could you let me know ASAP if anything can be done to prevent this.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have tested the document that you provided and was able to reproduce the error. The problem has been noted as a bug and assigned the number PDFNET-3727. Our developers are working hard to provide you with a fix for this problem as soon as possible.

    Thanks.

Re: Word to PDF Formatting Issues

    Hi Dan.

Thank you for your interest in Aspose components.

In the first table the heading of the middle column was accidentally marked as numbered list. After I had removed this attribute it became converted without a shift. The remaining content looks fine.

In general it is impossible to get PDF 100% exact to the source MS Word document. For instance fonts with same names can have slightly different typefaces in MS Word and PDF. As a consequence everything gets different. We can deal with particular inconsistencies in conversion. If you think the result is not affordable we’ll try to help you either fixing or suggesting a workaround. Let us know if you have any further specific complaints.

I have tried what you have said but I still get some descrepencies.  We have a very picky customer and will notice the differences.

    1. The row with Index and  Sale Statement seem to be made smaller to fit the height of the text.
    2. The tick boxes are not in the middle of the vertical cell as they are in the word document.
    3. The middle cell with the longer text does not start indented with spaces.
    4. Is there any reason by the x form field boxes have turned into ticks?

Attached is what I get as a PDF.  Is there a way I can get around these issues.  I am no Word formatting expert, so, do you have any type of best practices document for formatting Word documents I could perhaps give to this customer?

Re: Word to PDF Formatting Issues

Please try the same conversion on the last versions of our components:

    Aspose.Words 4.4.0.0 and Aspose.Pdf 3.5.8.0.

That’s not a good practice to format document content with empty paragraphs, spaces etc. It’s better to set spacing before and after, indents in the Paragraph Properties. But if you get affordable results on the latest versions you can retain all this.

Regarding the tick marks I’ll investigate the issue and will let you know whether we can control this.

Re: Word to PDF Formatting Issues

Could I have a way to get the individual dll's as the installation programs do not install on our Vista based machines here.  The setups keeps encountering an error and rolling back.

    Thanks

    Hello!

Of course new Aspose.Pdf is needed. I'm attaching libraries of version 3.5.8.0 for the case you experience difficulties with installations.

Thats fixed the cell spacing.  But the ticks instead of the x's still happen and the preceding spaces are lost on the first line of the block of text.  I will try this with a tab.

    Cheers

Re: Word to PDF Formatting Issues

    Dan,

It's better to format indents with Paragraph Properties. Select the paragraph you want to affect and change the indent here:

Format -> Paragraph -> Indents and Spacing -> Indentation.

On the same page you can set Spacing Before and After.

I'll let you know what to do with ticks later.
