Embedding full fonts in existing PDF

Hi,

we are evaluating your product and we try to see if it can resolve an issue we have.

We have a requirement for a service provider to have full font embedded into our produced pdf.

Went we convert from a Word Template, using PdfOption.EmbeddedFullFonts does the tricks.

We have some pdf that are created from some PostScripts files (.ps).

I know Aspose should support conversion from .ps to .pdf soon but, while waiting for this, is there a way we can load an existing pdf file, and modify it to have all fonts fully embedded ?

I’ve tried :

I checked your issue with the latest version of Aspose.Pdf for .NET v7.3 and I am able to notice a problem in the generated PDF file. When opening the file, I get an error “The font ArialBold contains bad BBox”. The issue has been registered in our issue tracking system with issue id: PDFNEWNET-34333. Please confirm that you are having the same issue and in case you are facing a different issue, please share the details with us.

Yes, I have the same problem.

But, the problem described also exist : using some other pfd file (anyone, a simple rtf file saved in pdf by MS World) have the problem of fully embed all required fonts, using the code in previous post on this thread.

Is the code shown up there is correct to do what I try to do ?

I am able to reproduce your issue regarding font getting changed when embedding in a PDF file. Actually, the issue is caused due to setting the Subset as false (Font.isSubset = false;). I’m having a new case here. I’ll see two att. :

19800201.pdf : file obtained from a conversion of .ps (Post Script) file by using a GNU tool named GhostScript containing no font embedded;

19800201_cvt.pdf : file obtained using Aspose, using the same code shown earlier.

If you open 19800201.pdf, in the properties, you’ll see the Helvetica fonts used.

Now using 19800201_cvt.pdf, first an error pops up while opening the file, stating a problem about Arial font ?! Als, the contain is not the same for the font.

Is this problem will be corrected in 7.6 release ?

We have further investigated the issue PDFNEWNET-34336 and as per our observations, the issue is occurring because of the code snippet that you are using. The properties sequence is important.

IsSubset must be set first
Then IsEmbedded may be set to true.

That is because IsSubset=false automatically makes the font not embedded.

The issues you have found earlier (filed as PDFNEWNET-34336) have been fixed in Aspose.Pdf for .NET 7.6.0.

Hi,

I’ve tested the new version with the same initial pdf file from the current thread (named SampleIntoEmbeddingNotWorking.pdf).

I now have an Unhandled Exception on the first call which is now :

pageFont.IsSubset = false;

Also, if I try to do a subset embedding with the same file, it seems to work but, when I open the new file, it popup an error (you can see in att.) and some caracters are missing in the file.

Hi Fortin,

The issue PDFNEWNET-34333 reported earlier against SampleIntoEmbeddingNotWorking.pdf is not yet resolved. Furthermore, I have tested the scenario with Aspose.Pdf for .NET 7.6.0 and I am able to notice the same exception. I have updated the development team with these findings and they will definitely consider them during the resolution of this issue.
