Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services does not have built-in abilities to export reports as Microsoft Word documents, but after installing Aspose.Words for Reporting Services on your server, you will get access to three additional export formats namely; Microsoft Word (DOC) documents, Office Open XML (DOCX) documents, Rich Text Format (RTF) documents and WordprocessingML (WordML) documents. To create documents in these formats, Aspose.Words for Reporting Services relies on a built-in version of Aspose.Words for .NET, the market leading document-processing component from Aspose. Microsoft Word is not used to generate the documents. DOC, DOCX, RTF and WordprocessingML copies of the same report will appear identical to each other, thanks to the high degree of support for the underlying file formats, provided by Aspose.Words.

Aspose.Words for Reporting Services fully supports all of the RDL specification. This means that there is no need to redesign existing reports. You can export any existing RDL report as a Microsoft Word document and it will appear exactly according to the RDL design. Also there is no need to use a specific report designer. You can use any RDL report designer and the report will be exported exactly the way you designed it. Aspose.Words for Reporting Services supports the following RDL elements:

- Textboxes
- Images
- Charts
- Lists
- Tables
- Matrices
- Styles
- Rectangles, lines
- Subreports
- Third-party controls (such as Dundas Chart for Reporting Services)

Aspose.Words for Reporting Services exports reports as Microsoft Word documents in such a way that they appear identical to reports exported by Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services’ built-in renderers. Aspose.Words for Reporting Services employs a smart technology known as AWesomeExport to produce “editable” Microsoft Word documents. The goal of the AWesomeExport technology is to balance editability of the exported document versus accuracy of the RDL to Microsoft Word conversion. With AWesomeExport you can choose between two modes of export Flow Layout (default) and Positioned Layout. The Flow Layout mode produces most “editable” Microsoft Word documents that consist from simple paragraphs, tables, section breaks, etc as if an office worker created the document in Microsoft Word. The Positioned Layout mode produces reports with the most accurate conversion of RDL to Microsoft Word documents. Tables and matrices from the report are exported as Microsoft Word tables, while some elements are exported as positioned textboxes. Regardless of the layout mode, Aspose.Words for Reporting Services always attempts to export reports with high fidelity (as close as possible) to reports generated by Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services’ built-in renderers.

| Aspose.Words for Reporting Services is a rendering extension for Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services. Aspose.Words for Reporting Services is provided as a single MSI installer that can install on the computers running either Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services (32-bit) or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services (32-bit and 64-bit) or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 “Katmai” Reporting Services CTP 3 (32-bit and 64-bit). It is also easy to deploy and manage Aspose.Words for Reporting Services manually, as it is comprised of only one .NET assembly Aspose.Words.ReportingServices.dll, written completely in C#, CLS compliant and containing only safe managed code. |
