The Last Version of Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET is Published

As you already know that we have merged Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET into Aspose.Pdf for .NET, we’re going to discontinue the former from October 2011. The last version of the separate Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET has been published with a few bug fixes. You may download it from the downloads section.

You may use Aspose.Pdf for .NET both for creating new PDF files from scratch and manipulating existing PDF files. We tried to keep you updated with any developments and migration processes.

Just to give you some background, here are some of the related blog posts:

Please go through the above posts to understand the migration process and the new merged Aspose.Pdf for .NET. As this is the last version of Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET, we’ll not be able to provide any further features and fixes in this component. Instead, we’ll provide these new features and fixes in the merged Aspose.Pdf for .NET. We would encourage you to migrate to the merged version at your earliest convenience.

We have published two versions of the merged Aspose.Pdf for .NET until now. The third version is currently in review process and will be published soon. You may download the latest version of the Aspose.Pdf for .NET.

Aspose.Pdf.Kit for Java 4.0.0 has been published. In this latest version, we have added two new features related to text extraction: extracting text to HTML and getting text formatting information along with extracted text. Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET 5.8.0 is now available for download. In this latest release, we have improved the PDF to image conversion, field flattening, text extraction, page extraction, filling fields with images, security and concatenation related features. We have also enhanced the feature to add multiple rows in the multiline text box using carriage return and line feed i.e. “\r\n”.

Seven Good Reasons to Migrate to Merged Aspose.Pdf for .NET

You’re probably aware of the fact by now that merged Aspose.Pdf for .NET has been released. Our development team has been putting a great deal of effort into merging the two PDF components we offered, and improving the mechanism along the way. The main motivators for the merger of both Aspose.Pdf for .NET and Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET were the suggestions and the requirements we have been receiving from you for quite some time.

As the merged version is out now, we think, this is the right time to put together a list of the major benefits you’re going to get by migrating to the merged version, and share it with you. So, here are the seven good reasons to migrate to the merged Aspose.Pdf for .NET

1. One Component for Creating and Editing PDF Files

Aspose.Pdf for .NET and Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET have been merged into a single component — Aspose.Pdf for .NET. You will have to manage and upgrade only a single component for creating and editing PDF files in future.

2. New DOM Based API

In addition to retaining existing interfaces in the merged component, we have introduced a new DOM based API as well. This API provides more flexibility while working with the PDF objects. For example, instead of just adding or replacing text, you’ll be able to deal with the detailed text and font elements.

3. Improved PDF Engine

The PDF processing mechanism has been improved to provide better results and improved performance. The new merged version contains enhanced text and font rendering mechanism as well.

4. Consistency with other Aspose Products

The new component is consistent with other Aspose products in two aspects. First, a single component provides the facility to create and edit the particular format — PDF in this case. Second, the DOM API provides the interface similar to the other Aspose products which would be easier to learn and implement.

5. Backward Compatibility

You can migrate your existing applications to the new component with great ease. By retaining the existing interfaces of both of the components intact, we have tried to make sure that your existing code works fine with the merged version as well.

6. Improved Documentation

We have not only reorganized the documentation so that you would be able to locate the required information quickly, but also added many new samples for most of the common scenarios to learn the component quite easily.

7. Separate PDF Components will be Discontinued from October 2011

Retaining the separate components for a long time along with the merged version, might get you confused. So, we’ll provide the separate Aspose.Pdf for .NET and Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET versions until September 2011. From October 2011, we’ll only provide the merged Aspose.Pdf for .NET. Aspose.Pdf for .NET 6.0.0 and above are the merged versions. We’ll provide you any critical fixes in the separate versions before October 2011. One important thing to note here is that all the releases of Aspose.Pdf for .NET with the versions lower than 6.0.0 are part of the separate Aspose.Pdf for .NET.

Get Font List Feature Added and PDF to Image Conversion is Improved in Aspose.Pdf.Kit for Java

We have released Aspose.Pdf.Kit for Java 3.9.0. In this version, we have introduced a new feature to get a list of all the fonts available in the PDF file. The PdfExtractor class now supports this feature. You may find a working example in the following help topic: Get List of the Fonts from the PDF File. We have also improved the features related to PDF to JPEG and TIFF conversion, form filling, fonts, and text rendering.

Add Image, Extract Text, Set Field Properties and Add Stamp Related Features are Improved in Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET

Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET 5.7.0 has been released with some improvements. In this version, we have enhanced features like adding image, extracting text, setting form field attributes, importing and exporting annotations, filling image field and adding multiline text in a text box.

You may download the latest version from the Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET downloads section. However, I would like to share with you that we have also released merged Aspose.Pdf for .NET. This merged version contains the features of Aspose.Pdf for .NET and Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET; it also contains a new DOM API. Moreover, we will discontinue Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET from October 2011. Continuous improvement to Aspose.Pdf for .NET creates a new product

Sydney, Australia – 1 July, 2011 - Aspose.Pdf for .NET and Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET can be used separately or together to create and edit PDF files. Aspose.Pdf for .NET allows developers to create PDF files from within their applications while Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET allows them to edit existing PDF documents. Both products are included in Aspose.Total for .NET, Aspose’s complete file management .NET program suite and are often used with other Aspose products.

Ongoing development

Aspose.Pdf and Aspose.Pdf.Kit were developed in response to two customer groups’ very different needs. Over time, as the products have developed and more customers started using them, some features started to converge. Increasingly, our users want to perform advanced tasks and document management that involves creating files from scratch or changing existing files. Duplicating features means either duplicating work, which is inefficient, or code, which can be difficult to maintain. Duplicating features between the two products also weakened the case for maintaining two separate products.

To make sure that our products are the best on the market we decided to merge the two products into one.

Introducing Aspose.Pdf for .NET 6.0

Aspose.Pdf for .NET 6.0 brings together the powerful features of Aspose.Pdf for .NET and Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET. We have been excited about this development for some time and have been preparing our users through regular updates in out blogs:

As part of the work on merging the two products we have introduced a DOM-based API so that the merged product has even more flexible editing features than the previous products. Migration to the new product is easy: it is important that the changes do not slow you down but instead give you a more powerful tool to work with. Improvements to the PDF engine ensure that this is the case.

Maintaining previous products

It is Aspose’s policy to support superceded products for a while after the release of a new product. Aspose.Pdf for .NET 5.n and Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET 5.n are supported and will receive occasional updated until they are discontinued in early October. We strongly recommend that our users migrate to Aspose.Pdf for .NET 6.0 – the merged product – as soon as possible to benefit from the new features. All customers with valid subscriptions can download, install and start using the merged product immediately.

In Aspose.Pdf.Kit for .NET 5.6.0, various features have been improved. These features include importing XML data to the PDF file, exporting annotations to XFDF, concatenating XFA forms, converting PDF to PNG and JPEG images, setting PDF privileges, adding stamp to the PDF file, and rendering text on the converted images.
