Aspose PDF File "File Save As" Strips Fonts and Formatting

    Attachment: Present (inaccessible)

We are generating a document from a word template filling using merge fields from our database.  The document is being created using the builder and then is opened as an Aspose.PDF in  Adobe Acrobat Full.  Our company uses full versions of Adobe Acrobat (ver. 6.0 professional or 7.0 standard).

When the file is saved using "File Save As" the font is being stripped out virtually before our eyes.

Attached is a pdf version of the document before it has been saved and the other shows what the document looks like after it has been saved using "File Save As."  I am also attaching a sample of the code that is using to create the file and open it as a PDF.

Right now, the only work around that we have is when the document is created, to choose "save" rather than open the document and then using "File Save As."  Saving the document directly to a folder maintains the font and formatting integrity but most of the time our end users choose "open" because they want to view the document.  It is after they open the document and try to save it that the font strips out.

    Please advise.

    Hi,

    Thank you for considering Aspose.

I didn't find any considerable change whether we open and then  "Save" the document or "Save As". The only change I noticed is the size is reduced and the PDF is little brighter then the original and no other considerable difference as far as font is concerned. Could you please highlight the difference.

    Thanks.

The fill in fields and their label descriptions changed from Charter BT to Arial font.  This is evident in the document called "PostSaveAsSample.pdf"

    Hi,

There is only one field " (Fellow’s response to sort committee notes) " and that is not converted to Arial. I am unable to find any errors in that. Please copy whole text from "Pre" file  and paste it into Word document, similarly get the "Post" file and repeat the step above defined. You will find that the font are same and according to input document.

    Thanks.

I am attaching another set of files.  The one that is titled "PostSaveAsSample.pdf" is highlighted with the changed text.

The text on the first document titled "pre" is in Charter BT font.  This is an old font and you may need to install it in order to see what I am seeing.  I have attached the font files for you.

We test this out by creating another template document that was in another font (Times New Roman) and the problem did not occur.  We believe that the font is the problem. Perhaps it is not being cached properly.

Could you please check this out and let me know if you are seeing the same problem with the files I sent.

    Thanks,

    Susan

Although I think this is a bug, my test result is not the same as your. Can you please test if the attached PDF work for you?

In the further test I am puzzled that I can't reproduce the error. In the attachment you can find a xml and two pdf files in my test. The pdf is resaved using Acrobat 6. I have not found the font problem. Please check it. Maybe you should send your orginal Word document to me and let us test it.

Attached is the word template that we are using to create this document.  FYI--this problem is also happening with other word documents that we are merging with the cover sheet document.

    Hello,

The problem of saving a PDF using "File Save As" seems to be fixed.

There now seems to be a problem with merging the cover sheet document with the proposal documents.  The proposal document, which is a doc, is extracted from our database and merged with the cover sheet.  You will be able to see what I am talking about in the attached example. I tested our code before the merge and the attachment looks fine.  I think the problem is happening during the merge process.  The final products results in formatting that is screwed up i.e. line spacing, text turning to italics when it should not, etc.

The attachment also includes the original Word document that is merged with the cover sheet so you can see what it is supposed to look like.

This must be a problem with PDF Kit.

    Please advise.

    Susan
